Exponential growth in the demand for next-generation sensors and actuators in the Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications increases the need for highly efficient energy harvesting system.
Efficiency of an RF-to-DC converter for a wide range of input power heavily depends on the distance between the harvester and the source. The figure below demonstrates the near- and far-field power loss which vary with distance from and RF source.
We are investigating solutions for RF-to-DC converters, capable of reconfiguring themselves according to power and/or amplitude of the incoming RF signal to maintain high PCE from available power.
